Whistlle Bullet

I know that in the world of archery there are Whisstle arrows.
In the old days they were for signals in a war ( if i am am correct)
But
Are there any way to make some for a sling?
Does anyone have ideas ( or drawnings).
Maybe is it possible to drill a hole in some kind of massive ball.

Please give me your ideas or information to make one.

You can sling nails, they make a whistling sound. That's the only whistling thing I know, but iron nuts make a kind of "whirrr" sound. Or something like that.

Search for old topics about this, there are a few of them  Smiley

The Japanese had "Dragon Arrows", which was a regular arrow shaft with a hollow ball at the end.
The ball had 3 holes in the front, like a triangle. When fired, these arrows had a supposed capability of 80 decibels. Quite loud!
What I imagine is a ball half full of lead or pewter, for weight. The ball could have the holes in it. The thing with a sling bullet is that it tumbles, so the sound would be intermitent.

I remember that someone said that rough rocks can make a lot of sound when slung.
So do not go for the smooth pebbles but look for broken gravel.

really oblong rocks make a sort of alf whistle noise when they spin.  imagine if you could get a small scale narf football with the little whisttle thingies attached to the side, so that it would whisttle as it flew.  that is all i can offer for advice.

scratch that: maybe you could try an oblong shape with a wight in the middle, and have the triangle holes as one set on each side, that way as the ammo tumbled, there would be more frequent whistling, if it worked.

brass rifle shells whistle as the fly though the air. So do some small glass bottles. I once had a supply of old glass asperin bottles they wernt bad shape on often howled as they went though the air

Isn't there a way to throw the ammo so that it spins like a football (american football)? I think it was called a "wide realease" or something like that. Anyway, with this method, it would have a constant whistle.

well i am gone try to make a Lead ball and drill some holes trough it.
Because i throw sideways i think the ball keeps spinning in the same round way (pure gues) so he will make an equal sound or maybe a singing sounds .
First have to buy some equipment.
Anyone have an idea for a mall for a round ball of lead?

Where I am, lots of places sell supplies for fishermen.  Lead weights are available in numerous sizes and shapes.  I have several six-ounce (170 gram) spherical weights, and I could easily drill holes in them. You could probably find such weights where you are.

Be careful!  Lead is not good for you, or others.  Make sure you collect the drill shavings and dispose of them in a safe way (putting them out with the trash is probably not safe).

yes using a wide grip release with oval ammo.
cause a spiral motion for the ammo
But I think for noise. A tumble might be better like whipping a old soda bottle though the air to get the whistling effect

A friend of mine could whip rocks through the air with a sling so hard that you could consistantly hear a whirring noise, kinda like a mini UFO. Really neat. The rocks he used were all just picked up from the ground, and therefore no symmetry.

You might want to take a tip from the bull-roarer design, a thin vane that rotates in the air to create a thrumming sound. I'd start experimenting by attaching a small wing to act as a noisemaker as it flies through the air. Maybe even just a piece of duct tape. Good luck! It's possible, and worth trying for the effect.

harryman has just posted something about slinging nerf footballs(american football) with little whistlers on the sides.  what if you could make a mini one out of lead or something else(molded plastic with lead center?)

the nerf football seemed to work well, per his report, maybe someone else should try it out.
