ok, since i don't have the means to put my own photos online, i will have to post a whole bunch of them (with links, so that i don't overload some 56k modems, ok, except just one, to make you look at the rest too Tongue ), to illustrate how does Jarun (the lake) looks like.

...

first, i understand that many ppl don't know where Croatia is so:
http://www.usaid.gov/locations/europe_eurasia/countries/hr/croatia.gif

the capital of Croatia is Zagreb, city in wich i live in:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/64/CroatiaGradZagreb.png

it is placed on the western boundaries of the city, half an hour of tram ride from the center.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c9/Jarun.jpg

a bit ugly map, but it shows proportions well:

the wiew from the above:

and a two with the curve added (farthest hit):

and the surrounding landscape during the various seasons:

Mordechaj,

Dobar dan!  I didn't realize you were in Croatia!  No, I do not speak the language, I just picked up a few words from somebody I met who was from there...  Languages are fun, but there are too many!

Is that a rowing course on the left side of that picture?  It sure looks like one.  I haven't been in a shell for probably thirty years...

Vidimo se!

Rightly you brag, it is a perfect spot. Only a few too many people on sunny days it seems.
So whoever is going on holiday in Croatia has to help you.
I am sorry, but not for me, not soon at least.

I am definately obsessed with all things primitive due to this forum. I have been reading it most days for over a year now and the posts are so informative. So far i have made blowguns, slings, an atlatl, slinshot, club, bolas, pistol crossbow, staff-sling, longbow (which broke), bow drill.............. the list goes on. The next on the list is a rope dart it looks dangerous!! thankyou for giving me such an interesting way of occupying my time. Grin

Hello, coops! Welcome to the forum. I too came here as a visitor for several months before I signed up. You seem to have been a busy guy, making all of those primitive gadgets. I am going to try some throwing sticks next, as we had a huge tree cut down that was hanging over the house.
I have often wondered if we are so interested in primitive technology because we wonder if we could survive in a primitive environment. I fear that in reality if any of us "modern" people stepped into a time machine and stepped out 9,000 years ago ( see the petroglyph of the slinger in the historical gallery ) we wouldn't last 10 minutes! Eaten by bears, most likely.
   Anyway, welcome aboard!                                .......Dan

Thankyou both for your warm welcome. I decided to stay out of the forum until I knew a little more about the topics and could give some useful input. I too would like to make a throwing/rabbit stick but so far i have not found much information about specific details (size, shape etc). If anyone has any information it would be useful. From the information i have gained from this forum i feel i could survive a little longer than i would have been able to before, but i still think i would be dead very soon.

Welcome!

Not to veer off track here, but rabbit sticks have been mentioned a lot here. check the 'throwing sticks and rocks' or the recent 'boomerang' threads. i think they may have some info.

Basically, if it's heavy, about as thick as your wrist and a comfortable length, it's a rabbit stick. More proffesional ones have a weighted, knarled, or bend end for an added oomph.

o and welcome!

while out walking with the inlaws I was mostly gazing at the floor looking for stones. After a while the mother in law asked what I was doing so i explained. After that all 4 of us were looking at the floor for stones Smiley

I have ben obsessed with making them. I make one use it a few times and start another. I only have time to make them at work on break. So my lunch box is a slingbox. I usually have one or two slings that sre half done jammed in my lunchbox. Along with that a scisors, knife, leather punch, extra leather, and piles of cord, with just enough room for a sandwhich. I know sad isnt it.
