braided slings are very stable and sturdy.  you don't need to worry about knots wearing out or coming undone(except for the one at the end of the string)  also, braided slings tend to impress people more when they see the beautiful peice of weaponry than a simple string and pouch one.

Prim. Warrior needs to look cool. We need some way to make up for our lack of technological advantage.  Grin

Do we? Strategically speaking, the more our "enemies" underestimate us, the bigger an advantage we have. If you want evidence, look to David vs. Goliath. I don't think the story would have been as cool if David took one of Saul's special braided slings and steel glandes and put on some of his chainmail armor, etc. The humble vs. arrogant battle makes a better story. Well I do understand your point, but allow me to point out a few things
1) David was no squirt himself.
2) David did look cool!
3) Deception is a two sided coin, and the unexpected is the advantage not the static.
4) Lastly, He also didn't appear humble to many of his time, considering he said he would defeat a giant.
5) Oh almost forgot. It must be because I say so  Grin

I prefer to look like a normal, friendly guy. That's
The Great Deception
You know, people are caught by surprise when some polite, nice person starts pulling heaps of weapons from every pocket Grin. Joking here, I don't carry that many weapons to call it heaps, unless you are some very neanderthalish person and count like "one... two... heaps..." and, in fact, even then - I carry my folder for utilitarian uses, not to serve as a weapon Tongue.

umm... David was a squirt. He was an unarmored shepard boy against a fully armored and armed giant. No one expected David to win (he didn't really stand a chance, IMO). I don't think he would've looked that cool to anyone who hasn't  slung... As for your last argument... Well, I cannot defeat that Roll Eyes

EDIT: David wasn't confident in his own abilities to defeat the giant. He said:

David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."

i think that quote proves his self confidence if anything.
back in days when people were very religous, would you rather have a spear or the creator of the universe?

david's true power was discussed in another thread. the conclusion was that he was actually a very strong man, only small when compared to Goliath

Still, David was the youngest and "least" of his six (I think it was six...) brothers. He can't have been much if he wasn't even fit to go to war (while his other brothers were).

yes, he was the youngest but if you watch discovery channel or history channel, they had a special on "David and Goliath" and estimated him to be in his upper teens or early twenties. so he was no squirt, but no one knows for sure how big he really was anyway. But most people i know at around that age are very athletic and strong. But who knows, really ???

Well if pressed I doubt I could I could give definitive proof.
Though wrestling lions, and having "The all mighty one" kinda seems to stack in davids favor.

Of course as you pointed out I don't need to.
