Throwing terms: The Magnus Group

The Magnus Effect gives rise to multiple effects on trajectory that need their own terms.
The Magnus Effect itself is discussed in various threads including a currently active one at http://www.slinging.org/forum2/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=1;action=display;num=11384570...

First, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a slinging verb:

To Magnus.

This generally encompasses all Magnus trajectory effects, particularly the unexpected and detrimental ones.

"Sorry about your windshield, Sir.
I wasn't throwing that rock this direction,
but it just Magnussed over here."

(While potentially helpful in explaining the absence of ill intent,
do not expect this explanation to mitigate either the Wronged's rage
or the amount you will have to pay to make it right.)

Students of history will remember Nixon's Vice-President Agnew
who behaved in ways unexpected and unhelpful to the president.
"The ball Agnewed and hit the coach in the head."

A selection of Magnus Throws

The Topspin Toilet Plunger
An execerable shot that drops to earth and leaves the slinger feeling Pooped, Flushed, Drained and prone to complain loudly in uncivil terms.

The Sideswipe
Erratic sidespin hooking to the left or slicing to the right for a right handed slinger.

The Bodacious Backspin Arc
Named for a famous bull known for throwing would be Rodeo riders High and Far.
This shot arcs upward in maximum grace, beauty and range before the spin gives out and it drops sharply.

The Slinky
Thrown downward from an elevated position, this backspin shot arcs back higher than the thrower before dropping again.

The Shearwater
Named for oceanic birds that skim the waves, this backspin shot skips briskly.

Skip and Roll
A landing in which a Shearwater shot skips up to the shore and rolls off.

Check it out and post your Magnus throws, terms or experiences.

If you can help us figure out how to control our Magnus
please post your technique insights on the excellent thread at
http://www.slinging.org/forum2/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=1;action=display;num=11384570...
