I made some neat containers out of sections of bamboo. Has any one else tried this?

Ditto I've used it in practice swords; of course that was store bought

Well I have been considering getting a bamboo stave as the staff part of a future staff sling. I am unsure however how well the bamboo will respond to that kind of stress

Arkanii,
You may want to find someone that makes the split bamboo fly rods, they use pretty large diameter stuff.  I have some pieces exactly for that, but I would hate to have to pay to ship it.   Tongue

I want to grow bamboo. Can you grow bamboo good enough for some of the stuff we're talking about in a climate with hot summers and snowy winters? Pretty short growing season  Undecided

I have bamboo in my front garden, as it absorbs all noise.  Grows fast, too, this being in southern England, with a very average climate, but I am unsure as to how it would grow in other areas.  I expect certain varieties can grow in cold regions, but this could also mean a limited selection of uses for it, as it might not have the same properties as warmer climate grown bamboo.

there's a lot of kinds of bamboo, some grows tall in a short time, some only grows a few and takes a lot of time, some gives straight poles or twisted ones, and some are grown for their leaf colors  surprisingly some grows ok in a cold environment.
heres a link where you can check lot of types and grow conditions, they also sell bamboo plants.
sory it's in spanish and catalan (a dialect from east of Spain)
