slingblade
Feb 7th, 2006 at 6:28pm

Recently i made a sling for frisbees i was surprised how well it worked.  I made by taking a piece of rope cutting it in half and reattaching them with zipp ties.  It resembles a split pouch make the split big enough to fit the frisbee about 25% in. It made me want to try throwing a circular saw blade.   Your thought?

sounds quite awesome.

probably more scary than practical though... i'd rather be hit with a saw blade than a lead glande. also, loading smooth ammo is much more user/sling friendly.

anyway. sounds like fun. try to cut a watermellon in half  Tongue

I think there was a movie called slingblade.

We might be on to something here.  If you can throw a frisbee, a circular blade should work too.  You need to make sure the blade does not cut the sling pouch and fly out during the wind-up.   You'll need a discus throw full spin wind up for maxium power.

There'd probably be a longer range with a frisbee-like-projectile and it might be be easier to hit the target too!

that ammo would be extremely interesting!  you could possiblely make a pouch with the given blade segments already cut out of it so the teeth really wouldnt damage anything.
if you ever get this workin right, post up some pics
i'd love to see this

dont use a braided pouch if your throwing a saw blade. I think the teeth would stuck.

Hmm i would cut some metal to about twice the size of a 50 cent coin. make it thick and heavy, then once you see if it will work put an edge on it. Something too big, or too thin or too light would fly out i would think. But if its thick and not too big then it should work.

give it  a shot! make a movie! it would be cool.

Until 2 minutes ago I used to say I'd sling anything once, but I'll leave this one to you.

Thin aircraft cable might be helpful.

I would start with a crosscut blade with small teeth!

Please, try with large washers at first. You won't cut an arm off if it won't work flawlessly. But I would be interested in seeing some pics or a movie clip. I like to throw these blades by hand, so, according to my sig, I should try them by sling Smiley.

I’m new here and don’t have much experience to speak of, but this seems like an interesting idea. However I’m with AjlouniBoy here, I would not us blades used for cutting wood, or with some form of angled teethed, there’s a high chance of the blade’s teeth getting tangled. I think we’re all interested in seeing if it’s possible, yet no one wants to see you get hurt. A smooth edge might be best for preliminary tests.

My two cents said…
Great idea!
Be careful, I want to read more of your posts in the future!

I can't really figure out how you made that sling, can you explain it better, or pictures...?

I've got one idea how to make a frisbee sling, I'll check if it works, perhaps post a picture.

Actually I would be great if you can explian more fully. A friend of mine asked if this would be any good at throwing targets. I don't know if it is, but it sounds possable.

I need something you can shoot a floo-floo arrow at.

I've considered throwing circular saw blades before. Never thought about using a sling before. So does that show a lack of creativity or alot of common sense? Cheesy just playin, sounds like fun if you can find a way to easily launch. Perhaps a staff sling, with a modified sling?
