I've wondered about the second one as well. It really looks like the weft is twined - with two strands spiraling about the warp (lengthwise threads). THis would be a nice tough, mechanically solid pouch fabric, but I haven't seen much evidence of this type of weaving. The first looks like pretty standard "basketweave" weaving. They've separated and possibly added to the cord strands, and woven a simple over-and-under pattern. It looks like the main cords are split into two groups before the pocket to allow for a wider "cupped" pouch.
If you look back through the archives, you'll see examples of sling construction that uses similar techniques, with different results. Most of this design work is specific to only one or two surviving slings - maybe there was as much experimentation back then as there is now! 8)
