My first trebuchet
Dec 7th, 2005 at 1:29pm

Here's some few pictures of my first little trebuchet.
It is made of a piece of wood, a tea spoon, tape, some thin ropes, and rubber bands.

My room is highest up in the house, so I have to climb up a some nasty stairs to get up. Where the stairs come up, there is a hole in the floor, and a dropside.

Ok, to the point, on the opposite side of where you come up when climbing up the stairs, I built a little trebuchet, to shoot nuts on people (moms etc).
Its main use now it to keep the key to my room while I'm away, so that when I come home, I can pull in a rope, and the key comes flying to me.

On the top of the wood piece I put two nails, which I tied some ropes from, and the other end of the ropes I tied in four nails in the floor. I've used the Curwen-knot on those ropes to be able to make it as tight as posible.

First I put two nails in cross on the floor, and tied a small thread with a loop on the other end to the two nails. I layed a nail under the two nails in cross, and took the thread over the rea spoon, and the loop around the other end of the nail I layed under the nails in cross. The pictures will explain better than me!

...

...

...

The rope you can see from the nail under the cross-nails, goes to the other side of the hole in the floor.

Doesn't it look cool? Roll Eyes

It's not a trebuchet because it's powered by rupper bands.  Trebuchets are powered by a counterweight.  Maybe a catapult?

Hmm, maybe it is a catapult, and not a trebuchet. Undecided
The rubber bands do work quite well, even after me beeing away some days, but they're not as good as when they're just put up. Sometimes the key fall down the stairs, but it usually after staying like that some days the key will get over the hole.
It's fun to have it there at least! Roll Eyes

That's a spoon-a-pult. Very cool. Try to find a way to attach a sling to the end of the spoon and you'll probobly get much better range. Then call it an onager.

Very cool

Edit: Is that thing nailed into the floor?!

No, not the wood piece, but those ropes you see is tied to some nails!
A spoon-a-pult, ok then I know what it is! Roll Eyes

A sling on it? Like a staff sling, would that work?
