Slinging in the gym - need ammo
Nov 20th, 2005 at 9:43am

Hey guys,

Recently I have not had time to do much slinging, but I am really feeling the itch now. I would like to sling down in the basketball courts at the gym, but I don't have anything good to throw. I am considering getting a tennis ball or maybe one of those smaller tennis balls that they sell as chew toys for dogs and filling it with some sort of heavy-ish foam. I want it to be about 150 grams or so. Any ideas how to do this, and what sort of filling I need?

Yeah, if you've got enough room and plenty of patience I would say go with the bouncy balls. Those, imho, would be a blast. But tennis balls would be lot of fun too!

Go to a tennis court and you and your partner sling tennis balls at each other. Nothing like a moving target Smiley

I have played a game before with my friend where we run around a tennis court with tennis balls everywhere and we try to throw them at each other.

I hadn't thought about using a bouncy balls before. I'd actually like something that will bounce back, but won't *bounce* like a bouncy ball. I don't want it soaring across the gym, just coming back to me.

Inject your tennis balls full of water with an 18 gauge needle and 20 or 30 ml syringe available at vet supply store.  Put the needle in tangentially for a long obluque needle track for best sealing.

This brings them right to 150 gm, still a little bouncy but not wildly so.

Watch out slinging superballs, they really come back at you fast!

Happy slinging

You might want to try lacrosse balls. they are heavy and pretty solid.

Be careful...that can come back pretty fast if you sling them against a hard surface.

right, that's the problem. I used to play lacrosse, so I know how they bounce and how much they hurt when they hit you. I had to take a 90mph shot to my knee once  8)

I may try that water-in-tennis ball idea, but I am worried that if I bust the thing, I will make a big mess in the gym. Does anyone know of a type of foam that is heavy and helps absorb shock that I could stuff into a tennis ball? I think something like that would be heavy enough but would not bounce back like crazy

I would be very impressed if you broke open a tennis ball. The Addition of water into the tennis ball is going to all of the dynamics  I have decided that I must try these out  my self  I must find a good way to get the water in. I am thinking imersion might be the trick. insert a ball needle. and emerse the tennis ball in water until all the airs is out and the water in.
I plan to do this tonight. I will report back soon
