I make a blowgun out of 1/2" EMT conduit about a month ago. The ID actually measures more like .620 then it does .500 but since I make my darts out of paper cones and bamboo skures I pretty much can custom fit em' to the tube. I've even cut some broadheads out of some metal plate that I had sitting round and made up a couple broadhead darts. Out to 10 yards or so I'm pretty deadly but with more range the accuracy drops off.  I ran a dart over my Chrony and got an average of 105 fps which wasn't as much as I was hoping for but good enough given the heavy darts that I'm using.  I can launch em' almost 100 paces too so there's a lot of range for a simple 5 foot tube of pipe.  Just now getting into slinging and made up a couple to play around with. I'm sure I'll improve my design as time allows. Oh well, talk to ya'll later.

to improve your design you could attach fletchings to the dart. you could also try a fuzzy back instead of cones. i personally like cones but the fuzzy back is supposed to help with accuracy, never tested though...

At first I tried to wrap yarn around the end of the dart but it weighed too much and just didn't work very well. The paper cone with a coat of paint after it's affixed to the skure with glue works pretty well.  I've pretty much got the blowgun stuff down to an art. Now I've just got to get things going with the sling.

Here's the style of darts that I'm making.
http://www.geocities.com/blowgunhunter/darts.html
Only I use Elmer's glue instead of super glue. Once you put a light coat of pain on the paper cone it's pretty much water proof and because of it's hollow design it catches the air and seals the bore of the blowgun nicely.

i also Elmer's glue my darts completely, hey make them stiffer and stronger, as well as the fact that it makes it temporarily water proof

i also used a crayon to cover some paper both sides for a cone it doesn't stick too well the the base but works

Another great link for the Cherokee blowgun but this one is VERY informative if you would like to try fletching your darts using Scottish  thistle.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lPx9B_gR50

I shot this video Sept. 5th in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the 57th Cherokee National Holiday blowgun competition.  They only allow blowguns made from river cane so I had to buy one on the spot but still managed to finish in the top ten. Lucky for me, there were only eleven men shooting!  Grin

Just read the "You Guys are Evil" thread. I guess river cane isn't as scarce as I thought it was!

wow, cool, i'd imagine that the hairspray might be strong enough to stick to the shaft too
