i have to make a poster with one of Ralphs sayings on it. I was thinking of
""To be great is to be misunderstood"
with a picture of jim moorison in the background. shame of it is i can find a pic of the guy wearing a shirt! I wonder if he even owns one..

any way Ralph is pretty cool i like some of his other sayings too.

I appreciate Matthias for his effort.  Knowing his computer and multi-tasking skills, he probably didn't waste any of his time.   8)

jeez - look guys stop using google and use a real search engine: www.dogpile.com
Google these days is totally commercial and pretty biased against those sites who don't pay to get higher in the listings. Dogpile on the othjer hand goes out and searches a whole bunch of diverse search engines and gives you a very comprehensive set of unbiased results.
And by doing so in about 3 seconds you could have discovered this: http://www.transcendentalists.com/1emerson.html
:-)
He wasn't a poet :-)

oh sorry guys for not saying who he is. Any way thats the right guy Smiley

he wrote about going back to nature and what not. He is in the same class of people who wrote rip van winkle (i enjoyed that story) and the white socks series. Ever see last of the mohecans? that is the last book in the white socks series. they are all good books and i enjoyed reading them.  Smiley

more sayings

"what is the hardest task in the world? to think"

so far as man thinks he is free. thought takes man out of servitude into freedom.

Tragedy and comedy always go hand in hand.

I gladly pay the rent of my house because i therewith get the horizon and the woods which i pay no rent for. for daybreak and evening and night i pay no tax

popularity is for dolls a hero cannot be popular

keep cool: it will be all one a hundred years hence

good luck is another name for tenacity of purpose

the religion that is afraid of science dishonours god and commits suicide.

if a man...can make better chairs or knives, crucibles or church organs than anybody else you will find a broad hardbeaten road to his house, though it be in the woods

the invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common

if the world accepted only "normal" visions nothing new would ever be created

ralph has lots more his works are a little hard to read but i think most of us would like some of the other transcendentalists
Smiley

ben banned i liked jim better when he was alive Grin
