Traditional weapon belt mounts

I was going to mount some of my newest throwing axes to my belt but i would first like to know how they use to do it in the dark ages. I dont think that they would drill a hole into the handel and add a loop like i was going to. I think that they would just shove it into there belts but that would make a very slow draw. So i think that all i am going to do is wrap some leather cords around the handel, making a loop and then nail the cords with some small brass nails. But if any one has a better idea...?

I have a bamboo quiver for my blowgun darts that is strung on a leather cord long enough to be worn around the neck or the belt, although I can probably reload faster if it's strung around my neck. I'm thinking of lining the lip of the quiver with something like wool so that the wooden darts don't clack so loudly against the rim as I walk.

(sorta like a ring and strap set up) Just remember to keep your sharps covered.

i had some spare antler laying around so i made a belt mount for my throwing axes. It lookse pretty cool, and holds the axes quite nicely (well except if im running or jumping) i can draw the axe quite quickly without it snaging the belt "hook" i have it hanging off of.

i made the hood i have over the one axe. I havent got around to making a hood for the other.

That would be bad... you will run, the axe will nick your leg, you will bend to check it and empale yourself with the antler. Be careful!
It seems that your throwing axes are pretty long, aren't they? If they hang under the knee, don't use the belthook, because that's calling for an amputation. I know it from my own experience.
