Yeah, the sling must be one of the oldest weapons of mankind.

The movie did have a lot of slinging.  If I remember correctly, the actress didn't do that good a job at using a sling.  Her character was suppose to be a master slinger but she really couldn't display the power of the weapon.  The movie "King David" had much better footages of slingers in it.

Oh?  Which ones?  I only know of three,  "Clan of the cave bear", "King David", and "Alexander".  The last one I have not yet seen.

Well, those TV movies aside, can anyone think of other big screen movies, (movies you buy tickets to or get on DVD) apart from the ones mentioned above, that showed footage of the sling in it?

The book Clan of the Cave Bear was very good, sadly the movie did not live up to the book or even close.
Even the major babe Daryl Hannah couldn't save that script.

true true.

I love those books about Ayla. They have been a part of my dayly life since I started to read them ( more then 10 years ago) , and they are the reason I get into slinging.
The movie was not that good, but it must be hard to make a movie with signlanguage for "normal" people.

One other Film with one scene with slinging must be  Crocodile Dundee. In one Film he use a sling, if I´m not totally wrong.

By the way, this thread was already up long time ago, so one can probably use the search funktion to get more info.

Did Ayla still use the sling in the later books?  I only read the first two and stopped because the slinging was just way too unrealistic.  Plus, she started using the spear thrower (atlatl) and I lost interest.

I don't recall Dundee using the sling, but there was a scene where he used a device that looked like one.  It was a wooden board tied to a string and when swung around it create a really loud noise.  He used it to send signal to his friends in the second film.

Tint,
yes she use the sling regulary in all books, but not so much in detail as in the first books.

In Crocodile Dundee it is a scene when they are in the city of New York, and there he throws a fruit (apple?) with something ( sling?) to hit a tief that had stolen a bag. I think.

Thanks Ulrica, you spare me the agony of wondering if the spear thrower had dethrone the sling in Ayla's life!

That part of the movie, if I am not mistaken, it was a can (cambell soup perharps?) that Dundee threw by hand.

It is a can (soup?), and he did throw it by hand too. Still pretty impressive.

So are we back to square one?  Clan of the cave bear, King David, and Alexander; are these the only big screen movies with footages of slinging?

I remember an old Tarzan movie with Johnnie Weismiller where "boy" used a sling, all under hand throws, if I remember correctly, it must have been in the sixties when I saw it, I was throwing alot then and it caught my attention.
