Chackrum construction and use.
Nov 25th, 2004 at 7:07pm

Anyone have any experience with this? Could I make a test model out of wood? What about if I traced one on half inch steel sheet and then used a grinder to give it shape?

How do you throw it?

I make boomerangs sometimes. Then look good but unless I use really hard wood they get messed up pretty quickly.

I don't know much about this weapon other than it is/was used by the Sihks of India. I saw something on TV that briefly showed a Sihk wirling one around on his finger tip and then let it go towards a watermellon, which sliced nicely through. I'd think that 1/2 steel might be WAY too thick. I'd try it with 3/32 to 1/8 and see how that works.

they sell these high grade alumanum plates down here. I was going to file down the edges and make them sharp but i have never got too that yet. Why do you need the hole in the middel? couldnt you throw it like a frisbe, like have one little section blunt to hold on to and the rest sharp? I dont see what the hole is for.

I think they are a little too heavy to be thrown like a frisby and get lift the way one of those do. I'd rather wear a hard leather glove then have a blunt edge on one side :/

No these plates are light. The small ones are about the size of a frisbe and weigh just a little more. The big ones, the ones ment for pizzas arent that heavy at all and i hate to see one flying at me regardless of how sharp it was.

I think that if you had a massively heavy one you could throw it like a discus and use it like a blunt force insturment.  when it hit all its energy would be transferd to the target and i think that it could cut it pretty well. Lots of energy in a big heavy plate.

that sounds pretty good. I still think that a hevy plate would work better. Maybe it wont fly as far but it would have more power.

My little texty thing? It's the name of the tallest mountain on the shore of Loch Awe.
Also the battlecry of Clan Campbell. Cheesy

Is anyone here familliar with the aerobie? If not, it is a frisbe-like toy shaped very much like a chakrum. The aerobie is the furthest-flying disk in the world. Now imagine that thing being razor-sharp steel.
I have no experience with the chakrum but, I'm sure, like all blade weapons it is one of finesse and technique, not power.
EXAMPLE: Take your sharp pocketknife (you DO keep it sharp, don't you?) press the point against the palm of your free hand. now, with the hand holding the knife, flick your wrist down. Is your hand sliced open damn-near to the bone?
  Didn't take much, did it?

hmmm i have beennthinking about making one of these for year i saw a picture once it was defintly hammered out  I have some saw blades that could be cut and hammered out thin and retempered then a edge ground
sounds very dangerous. I once broke a girl freinds nose with a aerobie the acidents that could happen with a chackrum ouch but now that i have the idea I am sure ill make one
