Strange Atlatl on ebay
Sep 24th, 2004 at 9:11am

I found this strange atlatl on  ebay and I thought that i would share it. The seller said in his article that this is a TWO dart atlatl. I said it could thow two darts at once. He said, Quote:
This is a generalized take off of an Aztec atlatl I unearthed in an article at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago titled,"Double Barrelled Atlatl".  It is not a figment of my imagination and it throws very well.
. Any one know anything about it? Here is the link.

Yeah, I found it on thudscave.com.  Haevn't tried it.  Don't think I will. I can only think it would be useful in a war situation, rather than hunting, and I am making no war solely war weapons anymore.  Just for the hunt.  Even though I can't legally do that either.

I have enough trouble with a normal atlatl.  Don't even TALK about a double atlatl.

I think, theoretically, that with a double barreled atlatl, you would notice a bit of difference in your balance, and accuracy as opposed to a single shot atlatl (sounds like two types of shotguns) I've never tried one, and I can see where maybe two darts in the air at one time per man could be advantageous, but I'm not a big advocate of the technology myself.

I went back and looked at it, and I think the atlatl itself is a bit long. You would need to be in excess of 6 feet or so to use an atlatl this size properly. And proportionally, his darts are too short. The ideal size is about pi:1 for dart to atlatl length.  his is somewhere around 2.6:1 LOL No wonder the little girl in the pic is leaning so far back! Looks like a pretty atlatl, though, all things considered.

Know one bought it yet, man i would have figured someone would have already. I think that have the extra place to throw a extra dart would be good. You could still throw just one but when the you needed to uses two you could. Is there any menchion about double atlatl in any books?

You could easily make one, if your carving skills are reasonable.  Might make a nice project.  For fear of Tech asking me to take a photo, I might give it a try someday.

If you want to make it REAl challenging, try a triple atlatl.  Then again, that might be pushing it...

Probably would be a little difficult.  I think finding a branch wide enough would be a challenge.
