Right, wether it's a natural-looking stick or a cane that conceals a blade doesn't change the legal situation. Why mess with it? If you're good with a stick, you can fend off an attacker long enough to subdue him or get away; the latter being prefered over the former, while not violating any concealed weapon laws; in a modern case, of course.

Ha ha ok ok i give up ill give up my pointy stick thrown at your feet.

I want to use my staff sling in stick fighting. But the point where the sling fits is fragel. is there a style of stick fighting that uses only half the staff or one end of the staff or something?

Those Irish bata sites use a style where the stick is grasped near the middle, and the butt is used for blocking, you could simply not block with the very end of your stick. That'd work, I think.

I've got one of those my granny brought from ireland. Its cool. Its some kind of black wood with a huge knot on the end. Its long enough to use as a walking cane, but she doesn't need a cane even though she is 97. She walks a couple of miles a day and only takes her cane if she is going downtown. She says its in case some "bastarrrd" cuts in front of her in line. Then she whoops their ass with her cane!

I am planning on pulling up a few saplings with the root knot intact to turn into various cudgels. But before that I am going to make a crochetted sling Cheesy. Maybe this is the wrong time of year for looking for wood...

I have no idea. I don't have knitting needles. But I guess it'll have to tighten up around something big and roundish before I can use it. And only the pocket part would spread, as I am going to braid the release and down cord.

Man... eventually I AM going to convince some of you guys to try the knit pattern I posted a while ago. The one piece model has become my favourite sling (and there are a few in the running). It looks nice, feels nice, and works really well. It doesn't stretch at all anymore (I posted that it had a little residual stretch when I first made it) and the cords have compacted into quite interesting triangular cross-sections.

Knitting needles are absolutely dirt cheap, and nylon seine twine (mason line) knits up very nicely (I used tarred)

Make sure to post pics of the crocheted design!

Trust me, I'll be making at least 3 designs so you'll get lots of pictures.
I don't have the money for nothing much at all at the moment, but it might just be in my budget Cheesy.

Go out find yourself a good hardwood sapling pull it up to keep the root ball intact, let it dry a good long time seal it and there you go.

The black sticks most commonly seen are made out of blackthorn, but oak, ash, hickory etc. will work.

some of the sites I have listed should have some general directions.
