The *PERFECT* Rock
Aug 14th, 2004 at 11:00am

In one of my buckets of rocks I came across this rock. It was too good to throw! It is almost the exact size and shape of an egg. Sorry about the pictures, they are a little bit fuzzy.

Hello WildAtHeart,

In my opinion, and after more than 25 years of experience like judge referee, the size that you use can consider acceptable, although the normal is that the slingers use stones something smaller, it is also true that there are them that they use bigger, in our competitions it is not specified the size of the stones, each slinger it can use the size that he wants.

It is important to keep in mind that the more big it is the stone, smaller distance and more force will have to make the slinger, therefore also the size goes in consonance with physical condition of the slinger.

Greetings,
Vicente

Nice looking stone!! I have one slightly elongated but similar in size.

Vicente,

I posted a question for you about the competions you have. Could you please read it. I want to know some details about the slinging styles used in the Balaeric Islands.

Thank you,

David

Yes I have been mainly interested in hitting targets about 10-20 yards away with considerable power. I realize that smaller projectiles are needed to fly great distances. I live near the woods so long-distance throwing is not really an option.

However, being 6'3" and 225 lbs I can still pitch stones that size pretty hard!

Oh, and on a sad note, that sling in the picture just died today. The release cord ripped through the leather. It was inevitable - now I'll need to make a whole new one!

Nice stone. I'd say that is just the perfect size for my use.

I don't like to brag, but I have plenty of stones like that - stone beach nearby, etc... lovely round stones.

Speaking of ripping slings:
I just figured out something today-- if you get those little metal eyelets you can put them in the leather and thread your cord through.  I think it's going to be a lot more durable. Grin
