I've tried both sling types and they both work well, the fixed pouch sling of Hondero and the simple 'loop around the point' sling of Yurek both get out to 40-45m. My slings aren't particularly long either, from my finger loop to the dart the cords are probably only 30cm long. As I said elsewhere, my dart is VERY light at 50g. Since it snapped last night I will be making another, this time with some lead in the end. More weight may give me a few more metres of range. Its not technique that needs to change, but the dart weight.

Where I get differences is in loading and reliability. Hondero's fixed pouch is tricky and takes time to settle the dart into. The point must be stuck, but be able to be released. This makes loading precarious.

Yurek's sling design produces (for me) the same performance, but reloading is very very easy. Settle the tail loop, and in one simple motion, loop the long cord around the head and carefully let the dart take up the slack - then you're ready to go.

In any kind or urgent, tense and combat-orientated situation, I'd much prefer Yurek's long-loop sling design.

Still no luck with the staff-kestros!!

about two pouches...

...

is it possible that instead of the loop there was a pouch made of losely sewn cloth? that way dart would be much less prone to wobble

Just in case no one else noticed these darts look just like lawn darts . I think the name was "Jarts" and they were outlawed in the USA back aroung 1988 . Fascinating!

I wonder if they are OK to make and use or what the exact law was cause now I want to make a set .

It would be a neat game . Slinging lawn darts at targets 50 yards ??? away. Whats the range ? Cheesy

I wish the artist would have signed his work . This one will go up on my wall. Smiley

My family had a set of these things (The Jarts not the Kestros  Cheesy ) They were dangerous and Mom usually ended up putting them away after we tried playing with them for a little while.  Or until she looked out the window and saw what was going on.  I could see why they might want to outlaw them.

Johnny: You have quite a talent.  I wish I was 1/3 as talented as you when it comes to artistic stuff.  Keep up the great work.  Personally, I love looking at it.

Brian

Yeah do it!
I can draw, but I'm no good. I'm quite good drawing Beetle Bailey actually, that's my favourite comic. Roll Eyes
You've got a great talent with that! Shocked
