Metals?
Feb 12th, 2004 at 5:20pm

What would be the best metal to work with---not really strengthwise but the best to mold and shape?  Is there something out there that could be melted down easily?  Thanks much!

Metals for what purpose.  The end result is the greatest determining factor for choosing the material.

Metals for making decorative spear heads, decorative swords ect...  It doesn't have to be anything strong, just something that will look good on the wall.

Aluminium would not be bad if you wanted to machine the pieces.

There are some soft metals used for prototyping and model making that are easily melted and formed.  I don't remember the names, but you should be able to find the on the web.

Some cold rolled steel, a vice and a good file are a good start also.

You might also get away with solder.  You can get some heavy gauge stuff from radio Shack or a hardware store.  You can melt that down pretty easily and put it in a mold.  You can get lead-free versions too.   Just check out prices and see what is cost effective.

A soft brass or bronze would look nice and should be easy to hammer into shape. Just be sure that you don't get naval brass (it is too tough). Maybe some soft iron or steel because it is everywhere.
