Mike Greenfield submitted an article on his three-cord sling.  You can read it in the articles section under "Other".

Pretty neat.

Bad News, fellow slingsters!    See my posting of Dec24, 03, "Correctly Slinging Footballs".   If the ideas in this posting are anywhere near right, a 3-string design wont work worth a darn!!    I'm back to the traditional 2-string design, with even larger pockets than before!

A longer-than-expected pocket (string-to-string) may be needed by us newbies because we arent very good at keeping a line thru our knuckles perpendicular to the line of aim, which means the ammo will roll from end-to-end of the pocket as we spin.

More news as it breaks!     mgreenfield

mgreenfield I dont know about hurling perfect spirals but I like my tricord and seem to have better acuracy with it. i do have the best luck with round ammo I have a huge supply of 1&1/2 inch ball bearings thanks to a dry wall factory that closed down

lobohunter, ....I'd love to see pix of your tricord design.   A pic of my tricord is in the gallery someplace.

Big advantage of this design (I think) is that it permits sling pockets to be VERY! small, and still securely retain spherical ammo.

BUT, with a tiny pocket,  it is limited to using spherical ammo.  Ball bearings would be perfect.

Advantage of the 2-string sling is it's ability to pitch "footballs".    I think Mattias and/or Jurek did math that said if you took a certain spherical mass (say 3oz), and reformed it into an ellipsoid 3 times a long as "fat", you potentially reduced air drag to 1/4 that of the sphere.

The trick is to pitch the ellipsoid point first, ...which can be done pretty easily with a 2-string sling and a wide grip.

Interesting stuff, huh??   mgreenfield

lobohunter...

Same general layout as the tricord I made, but a lot nicer execution.

I started my pocket as a small triangle sized for golfballs.  Soon I noted that very little of the inside surface of the pocket was actually in contact with the golfball.   So, I cut away most of the leather pocket that was NOT in contact with a golfball, and ended up with a VERY minimal, BUT at the same time a very stable pocket for pitching spherical ammo.

If you're going to pitch just spherical ammo, a tricord is probably THE way to go.

I didnt get around to working on a style that would guarantee(?) backspin on the ammo, but that would be the next step.
