Title: Funny hit-rotating sling target Post by timpa on Oct 9th, 2020 at 6:31pm
Baking tray. But its problem is that it can’t stand slinging. Just a few throws, and it was ruined. :(

That's an awesome target idea! I might have to try rigging up something like that.

Agreed. All of the support structure would work fine. Maybe just have some stiff steel supports and a thick board to replace the baking tray, and it would probably work pretty well. |

The tray never had a prayer. I agree, it's a great idea for a target.

Thanks! :)
The board also breaks gradually. Only thick metal can withstand. If Joe or IG or someone else makes a video, I definitely want to see it. |

That tray took a beating!
Those are some powerful throws. Have you velocity calculations? I'm interested to see how many joules your throws are generating. |

What about using end grain wood? Like the targets that knife throwers use? I don't think that it would split as easily. |

Wood gets hammered to pieces. The grain starts de laminating. And splintering.
End grain would probably work but it would need some thickness. And a big log to cut it out of in the first place. Could glue 2X4's together with a really good glue, that should work. No idea how long the pieces would need to be to survive. As far as the metal plate, just stomp it sort of flat and start slinging again. Just a thought, but that also shows that cheap armor back in the day may not have been all that great protection from professional slingers. |

The wood is likely to crumble.
