Title: Slingers World Problems
Post by Sarosh on May 26th, 2020 at 4:24pm
Saw a mouse this weekend  at the range.
mice in the city are no problem if they remain in the sewers. but at the range I pick up stones and sling them if they have dust on and i don't knock it off then there is a visible puff of dust upon release , it's not that uch that it would cause silicosis.. but since I saw the rodent I wondered if there could be a way that I get infected by rodent feces or something getting airborne during slinging. And there appear to be numerous diseases that one could contract.
very strange how our species and almost every mammal is still alive with all these diseases around.

anyone had experience with rodents on playgrounds/parks/construction sites? what is the best action, just was hands and dont touch dirty stones?

To be honest rodents are everywhere and if something can live on the dust of the stone it’s just as likely to go airborne with you walking through the area. Out West we have both Hantavirus and plague. Plague not a huge issue so long as you aren’t touching rodents. But hantavirus can be spread through urine/feces and general rodent nastiness. I doubt there’s anything you could really do besides going to an area without any rodent diseases to protect yourself though. Basic precautions is plenty in most areas I would think. Mostly wash your hands and don’t touch your face.

What was said^^^, i use to breed rats and mice for snake food. I never got sick from them as said. Wash your hands, or in this world now, the new normal is carry hand sanitizer  24/7

I don’t think the risk is higher than before you saw the rodent. If you haven’t gotten sick yet it’s probably not because there weren’t rodents running around. Wash your hands and don’t lick the rocks, and you’ll probably be just fine :)

yeah I've seen dead rats before at the river but now it was alive and pretty close to where I pick rocks, 3m away from me, went back into vegetation. and got me thinking , catastrophizing...
