Title: Staff Sling Problems Video
Post by Kick on Apr 5th, 2020 at 10:42am
Finally got together the staff sling video. With various mishaps and long work shifts, it took a while but it's done. Enjoy!

Great slinging!  Do you find there's a big difference in your accuracy when slinging rocks as opposed to tennis balls?  It may been the inclusion of the log hits, or adjustments you have made to the staff sling, but your precision seemed to be better than in the last video you posted when you were slinging tennis balls.

And that was definitely some crazy wind.  In the second part of your video you can really see the trees blowing in the background.  We've had that recently where I live too.  It seems like there has been high wind on and off for the last couple weeks at least.

I think I got more direct hits with tennis balls than with rocks, most of them bouncing first. I need to go out again as on the second day, before I called it off, I was throwing slightly more sideways than straight down and was getting better hits. I always feel I need to do more testing :D

It was really crazy and came out of nowhere. I was constantly looking around expecting to see the camera on the floor which did happen twice. It was really annoying because it was my last day off before a long stretch of work days so I was hoping to get more and better footage. Tomorrow is looking good and I might go out on Tuesday as well so I'll be able to get some more... shall we say, representative footage. I can also get some video of the smaller stick sling I made. I think it's now as good as I can get. It's funny, some people think of the hand sling as a kids toy when it's actually a dangerous weapon and I feel I've now made it a kid's toy again :D The stick sling works, but it's nowhere near as powerful as a hand sling. It's got fairly good accuracy with small stones and is super easy to load and throw so would be good for a kid :D

That's okay.  We just have to show them some of timpa's videos and it'll set them straight. ;D

You need both a longer stick and a longer sling :-)
