Saw a crow dropping a walnut on the road trying to crack it. Second time he got it.

This may sound like I'm exaggerating but a crow is my number one pet if I could have one to choose.
I don't know why I've just always wanted one. They are smart, reasonably big and as with most birds they make good pets if raised and treated well. I have wanted one as long as I can remember. |

Ravens are the rich man's crow. I don't think anyone should own a raven unless they are dining on Alma's and truffles during a Sunday's brunch at the country club. For me, I like my birds like my wine, cheap, strong and in a box. Hmm...maybe that doesn't work as an analogy but damnit crows rule. Also Ravens defense blows so there's that. |

I like crows, but like ravens better. I know I have posted this before, but ravens will actually lead you to elk during elk season. They are tougher, look a little unkempt, social, but flocks are family sized. Crows need more backup :)

ravens are quite different to crows.
For starters Ravens live 2-3 times longer thans crows. Crows tend to max out at 20-30 years of age, while ravens regularly make it to 70. Well they do in the tower of london anyway :-) ravens are much bigger - certain;y than the europaen crows - more accomplished fliers and more intelligent. Ravens are my favourite bird :-) Pet wise, I'm pretty much against having ANY bird as a 'pet'. Animals that fly should never be confined. The not-a-pet thing goes double for parrots. Which are evil minded, blood thirsty and vicious creatures capable of making a noise that would drive anyone mad. Used to regularly visit a couple of clients who had parrots. hate them ! |

How can you hate parrots, they are a fantastic bird, I agree on the birds as pets thing, but really all species of parrot ?? You'd hate Australia , all you hear is birds.

Crows are absolutely brilliant birds. They can definitely tell the difference between and armed and unarmed man.

Agree birds in general shouldn't be kept in cages.
A messenger pigeon can be a nice companion. Let it live in the wild but just feed it, and it'll come back very often to your house or balcony. Pigeons are some of the sweetest birds. |
