The club was definitely a very simple but very effective weapon.† Do you know what type of wood it is?

Itís a cedar log mostly shaped with an axe after being charred in a fire.

The combination of stone age club and space age visor is quite striking.

That's a real proper Flintstones one :D Really cool! Somewhat related, I've been trying to put together a bow drill set and a few other "primitive" fire starting techniques. I've got quite the fire kit now :D

New club I picked up in Ireland. Genuine shillelagh from Shillelagh.

Thatís a nice lookin shillelagh there. Itís on my bucket list to make a traditional shillelagh... not out of blackthorn but from oak. The challenge is that you need an oak sapling thatís just the right size and the root ball becomes the knob... itís hard to find an oak tree Iím willing to kill just for a walking stick. One of the reasons blackthorn was used was because all the oaks were cut down  :'(

Not quite a shillelagh, but this is a white oak walking stick I made in 2013...

The club was probably the first weapon ever used by man.  And it still works just fine today.

I think the evolution of early weapons went like this:
Stick
Pointy stick
Stone
Pointy stone
Pointy stone on stick
Sling to throw stone far

;D

For bonking

Stick
Pointy stick
Stone
Pointy stone
Pointy stone on stick
String !
stone tied to string
Sling to throw stone far while keeping string

Alternatively:
stick
pointy stick
long pointy stick
long pointy stick for throwing
small stick to help throw the long pointy stick
discovery of string !

We'll gloss over all the 'bonking'
