Title: sling length!
Post by magic beetle on Apr 24th, 2019 at 1:33pm
ok y'all we need to figure out what is considered a short and long sling , and how we should measure the length (I vote for release to pouch) . I want to figure this out so we can  get a good system to categorize and make it standard

I'm pretty sure most people measure they're slings folded  ;)

The standard is folded, also end of finger loop tends to be more consistent measure than release cord end as some slings have extended release cords and you hold the cord itself when rotating.

Also roughly speaking:

Short = ballpark of 24''
medium = ballpark of 32''
long = ballpark of 40-50''

Yep, you should be able to get a good feel for rough sizes by watching youtube videos too.

That's a good point and why sling length is so hard to quanitfy. The sling, even more so than other weapons, is very dependent on the proportions of the person using it as what feels comfortable. The phrase "as long as a piece of string" is very applicable to slings because it really depends on your arm length, your height, your preferred sling style, the size of the ammo you use etc. All play a part in what length of sling feels comfortable. I think the measurements that have already been given are a good rough guide but I don't think it's possible to get more than a rough guide.
