Steve is currently the mod for the: Here Be Maths - section of the forum.

He's also on a backpacking adventure around bits of europe (no he wasn't anywhere near notre dame when it 'spontaneously caught fire' )

Last few days he's been staying at casa Aardvark inbetween visiting a couple of london museums and walking the length of hadrians wall.

Thoroughly nice guy - only eats once a day, which has helped my diet somewhat lol

Here's steve learning to make sausages (anyone who knows me will understand this is something I get most visitors to do)
For a first time he was pretty good. That strip on the draining board was 90% stuffed and twisted by steve. And getting them that evenly stuffed and twisted with a collagen casing - is not as easy as he made it look !

Then he's in the stocks at somewhere who's location can be revealed by solving the pictorial clues in the 3rd picture :-)

He says one of his friends will get it straight away - so let's see how the slinging.org brains trust stacks up to museum curators :-)

More about where we were, when someone works it out :-)

we also took the poly target for it's first workout.
It's good, stable (considering it was on an angle on a slope, leaning forward) The aluminium disc makes a fantastic CLANG when you hit it with a tennis ball.
My target sling was a little short for 20 metres. But at 15 - mostly what we sling tennis balls at in mallorca) I had several excellent sets including one of 4 dianas and 1 quadro. :-)
The netting, just stops things dead and the frame shrugged off any direct hits.
Can't see any reason it won't work just as well with clay.
The tennis ball picker uppers were as good as I hoped. Even in ankle length grass.

Here's a little video of steve hitting the diana at 20 metres.

Nice shot! To all forum members, if you find yourself anywhere near Finland, I know all the best slinging spots and all the best restaurants in Helsinki :D

I'll give you a clue.
My drawing is a horse (you knew that right ? )
Specifically a horse, not any other kind of herbivorous quadraped.

If it helps I live pretty much in the geographic centre of england and this was about 20 miles away as the crow flies - about 30 via the twisting english country lanes and bizarre route that english heritage mapped out.

To make it blindingly obvious (lol) leicester is about another 30 miles as the raven flies.

lol - come on it's a specific reference to an event that happened in one of the fields in the background of the picture, has also been referenced by englands greatest play wright.

Battle of Bosworth Field

lol, you don't win a prize.

Talk about making it easy :-)

Apparently the actual field is either the one we're standing in, or one nearby.

Quite why they held  a battle there is anyone's guess. Today, it's the arse end of the back end of nowhere.
Back then it would have just been a completely random field.

Best guess is that richards army was following an old roman road.

The centre there is really well done. Lots of interactive exhibits, things to twiddle and doors to open. I was really impressed.
Despite living fairly near, first time I've been.

At the moment steve should be somewhere along hadrians wall.
Hes hiking from the newcastle end to whatever's at the other end (I have no idea) I told him to wave, so if you look on google earth - you should spot him

Not even a textual pat on the back :o
I never even read Richard III.

Seriously, it looks and sounds awesome.  Definitely jealous.

even people who don't know where the ' a horse, a horse, my kingdom for  a horse' quote comes from. know it in some form or another - it's been in that many cartoons over the decades. Plus I'm guessing you just looked on google earth ;-)

The battle of bosworth was about the end of the war of the roses. Not strictly a war as we know them now. In fact its likely that the vast majority of the country had no idea it was on going.

Basically a long term feud between two families and their 'allies'. Although the allies were as likely to change their alleigance and fight for the other side as the one they claimed to support.

Essentially they'd occasionally gather an army and go somewhere - largely random - and have a battle.
Richard the 3rd died at 32 at bosworth and henry at 43 - very shortly after being captured and then made king.

Looking at it, the whole war of the roses was the hobby of Richard Neville, 16th earl of warwick. Who decided who was going to be king and presumably played both sides against each other.

Hello!

Yup, that's me... I did Hadrian's Wall in 4.5 days, and had a great time at Mr. Aardvark's. Definitely worth the stop, for the slinging and the food and the company.

I just got back to the States, and am settling in for a bunch of projects to all get going at once. Nothing like jumping in to the deep end while jet-lagged, I guess.

Again, a huge thank-you to Mr. CA, for the hospitality!
