Title: Fist braiding: exchanging elements between two braids
Post by Teg on Feb 22nd, 2019 at 12:27pm
This project is somewhat related to slinging, as the basic braiding technique, fist braiding, is used in Tibetan as well as Andean slings. Currently, I’m exploring a bit what is possible with the technique, except making a single long braid.
Right now, I’m looking at crossed and combined braids and this is one result. One could possibly use this as a fingerloop or for a pouch (with sewing in an inlay), although I’m currently not planning on doing that, but merely exploring the possibilities of the braiding technique a bit.

Does anyone of you pursue similar projects of combining/plitting/partially exchanging braids at the moment? I’d be glad to hear about it.

Very interesting, Teg. I though I had braiding pretty much covered.  This concept opens up almost infinite possibilities.  And you wouldn't have to limit it to just two braids.

Exactly! You could do three braids in a row, or four braids in a square or any other combination. But then controlling the threads might become quite tricky  ;)
