Title: Damaged wrist
Post by Shale on Feb 17th, 2019 at 1:37am
I slipped on the ice and damaged my wrist  :(. The doctor thinks that it is probably a fractured scaphoid bone, but we won't know for sure until I get follow-up x-rays. Fortunately, it's my left hand, but it still sucks. Looks like it will be awhile before this sling gets finished.

Ouch. Hope you have a swift recovery. It's just now got to the point that the snow is melting then freezing during the night then melting then freezing and all the grit that's been put down sinks into the ice and gets frozen over so doesn't help at all. In some spots it's just completely flat ice sheets with zero grip. I really want to get through one winter without falling over once.

That bone can be a horror to heal. Take care and follow all advice. I know 2 people who ignored the doctors advice and essentially rebroke the bone when it was almost healed.
Get well soon

Remember you are the #1 factor in how well you heal.

Sorry, Shale.  That really sucks.  I love snow but hate ice. It's snowing right now and I just walked Pandora (Husky).  I spent the whole walk terrified that she was going to pull me and make me slip again, reinjuring my knee which is barely healed. Anyway, ice is the pits.  I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone. I went in for follow-up x-rays and. . .no fracture! I have a pretty bad sprain and the doctor thinks that it will take about four weeks to fully heal. But I'd take that over a fracture any day. Be safe.

Yes, though a sprain can be just as painful as a fracture, the sprain will heal completely, without a trace.

I recently went to a gig (Flogging Molly, Irish punk band. It was absolutely fantastic!) and I was jumping and dancing around so hard I sprained my ankle. It's now fine but the first few days I was starting to think I might need to go get x-rayed. Unbelievably painful considering it's now completely fine.
