Title: Me slinging glandes over 200 metres...
Post by TheJackinati on Feb 15th, 2019 at 3:30am
... Annnnnnnd almost hitting someone's house.

Lesson learned: Lead throwing is Not to be done on a field near houses.

Any thoughts?

Agreed, slinging near houses isn't good with dense ammo, go to the beach that's the spot , although lead littering is also bad , much less likely causing someone harm. Rocks will satisfy your needs.

The rocks over here are crappy limestone. This is limestone that has the dual problem of being both angular but also highly porous, Not ideal. Gumnuts are much better to shoot in my opinion!

Though that reminds me, I might be able to dig up some Ballingup clay as I will be staying over at my mother's friends house for the medieval faire.

clay is probably best.
easy to shape, environmentally friendly, cheap.

but still LETHAL !

Never sling towards anyone's house :-)

I know exactly the limestone you're talking about, gumnuts are great and pretty much ideal in shape , you can really put some spin on them and get some curve.
I really like slinging dense ammo but because of the potential damage and the fact it's so easy to bury and lose I don't do it so much . Clay is good but I find rocks to be the easiest to just find and throw . Around Margs you can find some pretty decent stones so I usually just fill my bag as I walk along and refill it once it's empty.
Any ammo I have a personal or financial attachment too I don't really sling unless I'm hunting or trying to do a specific feat (distance or damage)
I have a small bag of tungsten that is awaiting my next hunt.

Just as an aside, really good technique by the way :D Much smoother than mine.

Thanks, I've been trying to get my technique and form down.

If you don't live in an area with good stones, an alternative to making glandes is to buy river rocks from a garden center. They're fairly cheap (I can buy a 40 pound bag for $5-$7 Cdn), the size/shape is more-or-less consistent and they don't harm the environment.

I also like the technique.  Nice throw!
