  That's what I'm thinking. It's very heavy so it was probably used for chopping at least some of the time.

At this moment, the strongest assumption is that it is a harrow blade.

I'd agree with the Harrow blade, or possibly a Plow Culter. 

How far back do you have survey maps for the area? How far down was it?

If it's a Harrow or plow blade, it could easily be anywhere from 17th century to 19th century from examples I've seen from over here in the States.

The oldest accurate map is from 1953. But I have some unusual maps even further.

Sometimes I will show a blade to an expert.
