It's interesting to see that even though it's only tennis balls they do give a good thump to the shields. It would have been terrifying to face a hoard of slingers with rocks or lead.

The lady has an accurate but a bit low-energy underhand lob, of the type I've seen on other vids of Spanish meets

A low energy lob that hits beats a powerful throw that misses.   ;D

I think in real life, the Romans would have charged sooner instead of letting the slingers get in some free shots.
