Title: Greetings from Denver CO
Post by BaysianBits on Feb 16th, 2017 at 1:46pm
Greetings from Denver Colorado!

I watched a youtube video on slinging and immediately became obsessed. I made my first sling out of a torn up pair of pants and some string. I've been practicing at parks in my free time and my only thought is why don't more people do this? It's like archery but WAY cheaper and it takes more practice to git good.

That is one reason that slinging appealed to me.

A new recurve bow, set of arrows, quiver, archery target, all sorts of other bits and pieces - I dread to think how much.
A bit of string and maybe some leather or heavy cloth (if it's braided you don't even need leather or cloth) - Basically free.

Welcome!

Exactly! It's also super light and pocket sized so I can practice during lunch break and don't have to worry about carrying so much stuff.

Hello from Alabama.

I sort of envy you, there are no rocks where I live, so either I drive 30 miles to the closest gravel bed or I carry my rocks with me when I ramble.

And I have to make the ones I carry. ;D

Its wayyyyy cheaper, and you can take it anywhere with nobody staring at you like you're a serial killer or something!!! 8-) Welcome to the forum, feel right at home, you're in the right place. 8-)

Aww, wish I knew there were slingers in the area. I was in Brighton & Arvada last summer/fall. :P
(No longer in Colorado, unfortunately.)

But yeah--the cheapness, effectiveness, and portability were what won me over as well.  8-)

The old pants/string sling. I wonder how many of us got started on that set up? ;) Yep, it's a great sport, and the fact that it can be put in your pocket means it tends to pair up well with all sorts of outdoor activities. I ended up looking at the ground so much for good stones I got into mushroom hunting as well. If your inclined take a look at the slings and slinging thread. There are all sorts of good ideas for your next sling. From fairly simple to elaborate.
