Okay folks, this is the thread for the christmas 2016 Sling-In-The_Hat

Not sure how we'll pick this year - might get dream to do it as phoebe did last year :-)

So add your name to this thread if you want to send one of your slings to a forum member and receive one from another forum member in return.

Usually someone gets hubert - probably the worlds best braided sling maker.
On the other end of the technology spectrum I'll be sending someone a 3d printed sling.
And there is usually everything else in between.

I am in.  However, I am a newbie and still figuring out how to make a decent sling.  Mine will be of the leather boat pouch, paracord variety.  Probably a good sling to pass along to another newbie.

I'm quite new to slinging and I can make a simple but efficient sling for slinging stones from Home Depot. I'd be honored to have a epic sling made by one of the amazing experienced members here (I highly doubt anyone participating here is newer to this forum than me XD). I'm in.

Doesn't have to be your best sling - but it should be something you consider to be a good sling.
I'll be offering a choice of 3d printed or laser engraved leather pouch.

lol yes. I had actually totally forgot that I'd sent you slings recently. My first match was ryan, so I decided to get that re-done and ended up with you, who I've also sent slings to recently.
But had completely forgotten about.

Was just trying to get it done before I went out on sunday, so brain not really working.

Such is life and the random nature of the universe :-)
And believe me this was about as random as you can get. Each person picked a name from the hat in turn till we ran out of names (even phoebe picked one with her nose).

Fascinated to see what you'll get from jaegoor - having seen and tried quite a few of his slings. He doesn't make the same pattern very often, so you never know what he's going to pull out of the bag next :thumb:

Out of curiosity, anyone know what the record amount of participants in SITH is?

you can always contact him on facebook - he probably just hasn;t logged into the forum fora couple of days.

He's found a beach full of perfect slinging stones - so i suspect he's spending a lot of time there at the moment , I know I would be :-)

Plus he's got a new remote controlled camera - so, yeah he's got other things to do at the moment :-)

But don't panic - you will get a pretty cool sling, that i can guarentee :thumb:

And yes hubert/uwe is probably the most skilled sling maker in the world - I've never seen more intricate designs.
Incidentally hubert is also - as far as I know - the world's only full time professional slinger. Not an easy task in this day and age !

As a happy by-product of SITH, VetRyan and I traded some PMs.  Although he was my recipient, he went the extra distance and kindly sent me two of his awesome slings, a braided jute Rockman sling and a seatbelt sling.

It is a bit too cold to get outdoors w/ them but - just fooling around in the basement I have learned a bunch.  To begin, I am making my slings way too long - probably a common beginner's mistake.  I am re-thinking my designs. 

It also looks like I am able to start practicing over-hand - something that has eluded me thus far.  My longer slings are suited to underhand and side-arm, but I could .

I'm now back in Finland and the sling you sent C_A was there waiting for me in the post box. Hopefully I'll have time soon to go test it out :)

Well I can warn you all now it's not as good as the others posted so far :D

I have but one criteria to judge a sling - can it launch a spherical object?

Looks like a sling to me!

whoever made that - try and work the loop over the knot, so that the loop can be pulled tight and grip the pouch properly.
But other than that - looks pretty functional. :-)

I made the one for Jagoor. Hope you like it... very simple though compared to many slings here. I'm pretty useless I did get it over the knot but it must have rattled loose on the way.

I'll post a pic of the sling and magnetic bracelet I got from Teg. I'm on iPhone and still don't have any idea how to resize a picture here, so sorry for the size in advance.

Very cool Jaegoor. That was quite a Christmas gift. You do very good work. It's not easy to get those tightly braided slings to be so supple like that. Tomas, you lucked out man!

Thomas . Die Schleuder ist nicht peruanisch. Es ist ein eigener Entwurf.  Das Muster ist ein totem nordamerikanischen Indianer .

ALL - you may have heard of a long serie of earthquakes that hit central Italy.
My house has been hit too but it proved to be too strong - until today, that is.
So I'm giving shelter to a family of friends living a hour driving south from here, who lost their houses.
Plus, the snow of these days appears to be the biggest of the last 70 years - it covered some villages with 3 meters of snow and an avalanche hit an hotel moving it of 10 meters - AN ENTIRE BUILDING!

So it's quite a hard time here - but me and the family is fine and I'll be back asap  :)

Wow! Good to hear that you and your family are ok. I can't imagine how terrifying that situation must be.

Thanks, fortunately heartquakes are not too scary for me - they always remind me of when I used to sleep in the ship during storms, the movement was pretty similar and helped me to fall asleep.
Plus, even if is not really new having been built in the early '60ies, my house sustained with no problems the horrible heartquake of 1972 - multiple shakes happened during the whole year reaching 5.9 Richter degree - and it received only minor damages from the latest ones (small superficial cracks on the plaster and some trinckets fell off the shelves).
So things are going quite well, a couple of building in my town have been evacuated and the people moved to a sports field since then. I can't complain!
