Title: Tutorial: woven shepherd sling pouch (#3)
Post by lakeslinger on Oct 20th, 2013 at 9:15am
Finally I resized and grouped the pictures for the #3 tutorial.
It shows how to weave small Vs in the pouch, a typical pattern of the middle east.

Hopefully Iīll find the time to add some text to all pictures.
Until then, try to figure out with the photos.  ;)

Thanks for the tutorial, I may have to try that sometime.  It looks like a fine sling.

Thanks L.S., I think I would have a hard time weaving on a sheet like that but I was able to understand how to do the color pattern well enough and will use it in my own ways:)

Although I prefer jute for woven pouches (see tutorials #1 and #2) here I used thicker cotton cords to demonstrate the weaving method easier. Also with thicker cords there are less rows to be made. The traditional shepherd or bedouin slings from the middle east, which are sold in some online stores are made of wool. I never bought one but watched the pictures and descriptions to figure out the pattern.

The sheet I used here is my Tut-sling loom that is simply a piece of plastic. For this pouch you can use any flat and hard object, e.g. a piece of wood, a hardcover-book or even an iPad (with this tutorial on the display, so you have the instruction directly as a background behind your weft ;))

Thanks for making this tutorial LakeSlinger! It is interesting to see your style of making multiple coloured pouches compared to my own versions! I prefer your method!

That is the kind of tutorial I wish I would've had the first time I wove a sling like that. Very clear and well done. I especially like how even you kept the edges of the pouch, which is a difficulty I've had when using twined wefts.

Many thanks for the feedback and sorry, I didnīt respond here for a long time. I havenīt entered this topic for a while, still trying to find some time to write a text (offline) that I can paste into the picture posts.

Iīm glad you like the tutorial. In fact I had the luck to have found your Tut-sling tutorial when I made my first woven pouch sling and it was your homepage I learned the >3 strand braids from.
