Title: Huntsman Sling Designs
Post by HuntsmanSling on Feb 7th, 2013 at 3:38pm
Open to trades. Otherwise $30 bucks + shipping

Worth every penny. Very tight weaves, good for tens of thousands of throws. UV, mildew, and rot resistant. The inside of both the release cord and the finger loop cord are slightly hardened with a lighter to ensure years of use without serious wear.

I typically make 3-4 slings a week for coworkers, forum members, or for the steady flow of rock hound hippies abundant here in Portland, Oregon. There is a waiting list as I can only work on slings after work and on the weekend because my fingers can only take so much!   ;)

Also I just ordered 30 new rolls of different colors and patterns, however some colors may not be available at the time of order. We can negotiate via PM.

If you order I need to know:

1. What 2 or 3 colors you want together in the weave.
2. Where you put the finger loop ie which finger and how far do you slide it on your finger.
3. Your address to ship to.
- And you need to get my address so you can send the money order to me. Once received I will ship same day or next.

Colors to choose from

Please note, the twine fully covered leather sling directly below i have decided I am no longer making currently for customers.

From here down are all for sale.

This triple rockman pouch is $40 because it uses 45 ft more cord and takes an hour longer to make.

Interesting way of lining the pouch with leather... Is it woven underneath or braided or what?

it looks like he put the leather over it, punched holes, and sew(sewed?) it.

Thanks a bunch guys!

What I do is cut two pieces of leather, long enough to cover the length of the pouch and wide enough to wrap around each side of the braided pouch. I do one side at a time. I wrap one side as tight as I can and mark off with a fine tip sharpie marker the points where I want to sew. Then I take the wrap off and use a center punch to pound little holes for threading on a piece of wood, punching where I marked with the marker. Doing this makes it wayyy easier to get through the tough leather with a needle (I can't tell you how many kneedles I've broken) and improves the design. Most importantly though, I pinch a rock inside the pouch as I weave so that the leather comforms to the shape of the rocks that will be thrown because the threads are positioned in such a way. That way it holds that curve naturally.

Cheers

Nice slings, but you may want to take the e-mail adress out, or crypt it ;)

Did you try a plain 9 strands braid for your cords ? And a 3 woven strands pouch ?

I think he said 12 strand, looks like a 3 strand type braid.
Also do remove the email address, I made the mistake with my skype name!

Thanks for the inquiries!

I do all sorts of strands to experiment but my favorite is a simple 3 strand folded to make a 6 strand weave. This is of course with the 1/16th inch sporting chord. Again, I'm currently experimenting with a 5 strand folded to make a 9 strand weave which makes it more complicated because you have to toss away a single strand twice in the process and weave one back in after the pouch is finished. But as much effort I put into making the slings perfect, I work twice as hard learning how to throw.
I study thoroughly the techniques used by the professionals ie Luis pons livermoore who I would love to meet one day. I've gotten quite good over the years, throwing thousands of stones every week. I've got his form down, which is not quite overhead but more behind as he spins then spins his last slightly higher as he steps into it like a baseball pitch in a relatively side throw. That last twirl of the sling is veryyyy important to gain enough leverage and momentum to snap the sling in a solid fluid motion. No jerking of the sling. Remember, you aren't doing it right if you don't hear the crack of your sling as you throw your rock..

Woweo! I have about 3 spools of cordage I make slings from now. 1 nylon-poly mix, one polypropylene/cotton, and one jute that is out and opened. I do not usually open a spool of jute unless I need to, as it has no protection against rot, etc and i think it decays over time- I often doubt it does( have you ever used a rotten sling? I have not) but I think its a good idea. plus, it seems easier to work.

Hi Kebin,

I've been absent selling slings on this forum because all my sling making time has been tied up with a local marijuana store chain, producing hemp slings for them to sell at all of their local stores over here in Washington State. I also don't use synthetic whatsoever as I prefer the bees wax coated 1-2 mm thick hemp for durability, flex, and weight. Lots of improvements on the quality of the release knot, finger loop and leather coverings.

I don't do this much but I've got some free time. It will cost you $100 but you will be more than satisfied guaranteed. I will try to get some pictures up of these new and improved slings.

HuntsmanSling. Are your slings really selling for $100.00? Who is your market base?

Also, and if you don't mind telling us, where do you get your hemp cord from? The reason I ask is that I have not found a hemp cord that is consistent enough in diameter for a really good finish in the weave. Too many lumps or it's coated (not with beeswax) and stiff or if the diameter is consistent I can only find it in very small spools. Thanks

Nice work by the way.

Hello Pikaru. http://hempbasics.com/shop/Item/2mm-hemp-cord

very consistent cord. Don't mess with twine. There is a big difference between hemp twine and cord.

Also, buy yourself a block of beeswax. After your sling is done you can drag your sling back and forth on the block to get your durability.

I sell them to head shops (places that sell glass marijuana pipes), but primarily military friends in my unit who HAVE to have one after they see what I can do.

Here is an example of a 5 weave I made with the same 2 mm cord linked above. However, the pouch is made of 1 mm hemp cord from the same website.

Nice heavy slings. :thumb:
You might want to start consider tapering the release cord closer to the pouch.
At least, i would prefer it more like that.
