slinging.org lacks favicon, and as I tend to open lot of tabs in browser, sometimes it is hard to find slinging.org tabs.

I've made a simple favicon based on site logo at top.  Chris should just put it to root of the site, so that it will be available at http://slinging.org/favicon.ico

The file is packed into zip as forum settings do not allow to attach ICO files directly.

Disclaimer: my art skills are very limited, so if someone make better icon, I will be absolutely happy.

And, yup I can see what you mean. Smoked-meat has a little flame, dogpile has a dogs paw and we've got an empty sqaure.

the smoked meat forum has a little animated ball of flame. That looks pretty good.
Just two frames that i can see. So the slinging one could be the one above and then another just as the missile has been released from the sling - that'd make a decent 2 frame animation.

Think icons are a 16x16 grid. have to look into it :-)

If I'm not mistaken, they can be made of any square picture, the limit is "will it be seeable when downsized ?"

So if you know how to make animated GIF, you can work in bigger format if it's easier for you ^^

I never tried doing animations and animated favicons.  And AFAIK, it requires inserting some HTML code into each page of the site, pointing to GIF animated image (ICO doesn't support animation, AFAIK).  If the site has some template engine (probably does), it should be rather simple.

Yes, but usually result is bad...  Anyway, I draw in Inkscape, free vector graphics editor, aligning figures to grid, and ask it to render image to 32x32 icon (or 16x16).

okay in that case how about a sling with released stone. ?

Not a fan of static pictures of slings - could be almost anything.

I'll go see where I'm supposed to put it.

And yes I read the bumf - however on a modern website the url you see is not the url that actually applies to where the website/forum files are.

The file is fine it can be anywhere and linked to. Just need to work out which file the html line goes into. Not as easy as you might think.

OK, meantime I have created a userscript that sets slinging.org's favicon on browser side:

You need Greasemonkey addon for Firefox to use it, and Chrome and Opera support userscripts out of box.  There is some addon for IE too...

I chose favicon at my discretion, sorry :)

I did upload one - didn't work.

Mind you I also added one to a new website I built - that didn't work either.

Now there is neither favicon at standard address nor HTML-defined favicon at slinging.org.  Could you, please, upload it again (to test site too) and give me a link?
