The Lahun sling looks like it would be a pleasure to use.

If it matters, the bullet saying "DEXA[I]" is prob. not fourth-century BC, but first century BC. (some have been found in a context which is clearly the siege of Athens, 86 BC)

Yep, I was just down for a job interview and the Petrie museum and the British museum are close to Euston station.  I stopped by both to kill a couple of hours.

Those are very nice pictures, David, thanks for posting them.

Do you have an estimate of the thickness of the cords on the slings?

I would say 5mm and quite square in cross section. What is interesting is that it is very clearly flat woven whereas the one in Manchester and the ones from Tutankhamen's tomb are cup-woven the way you described.

Thanks David!

It has occurred to me, although I haven't taken the time to try it yet, that you could weave that type of flat diamond pouch the same way I weave the Tut pouches, only instead of weaving an hourglass shape you simply weave a diamond. That way you wouldn't have to make a special little diamond peg loom, like the one in the picture. The pouch would be tightened just like a Tut, only it would be a little easier since you wouldn't have to worry about the cup shape.

That's a nice beefy sling, much sturdier than a lot of the other replicas I have seen.

Could someone help me the way the thread is woven around the loom?

Whoever made those did a really nice job!

I'm struck by how robust they appear to be!

The sling and reproduction were discussed in this thread: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1140984986/0

That's probably the best source of information available online, but, as you can read in that thread, there is an article in the June 1958 Journal of the Arms and Armour Society that describes the reproduction in detail. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a copy of the article anywhere.
