i just got my sling and it makes a DEADLY crack that would make a slave driver think twice

do you notice that if your release grip is directly on the fringe it makes a much louder crack than if you held it an inch or two lower on the cord?

Bump bump bumpity bump :-)

As I've just picked up an eyelet and stud fastener set from lidl for a paltry £4.
Thought I'd find the thread that had the cap paul sling templates in.
Here it is.

these are hands down the best pouches around. I'd even venture to say they're even better than my own :-)
So the people I still owe slings to - you'll eventually be getting at least two :-)

and for those who wanted smaller pictures:

Thanks. That's a very interesting design. Might have to give that a try.

I've never made or had one but some here consider it the best sling ever invented.

I don't consider it the best sling ever, I know it is. The golf ball pouch is perfect for me, aw I sling rocks.

pics later but I have now made a cap paul analog sling :-)

Turns out I didn't have the same sort of rivet things in the crimpy kit I bought. So I made the holes bigger and used eyelets instead.

I've been using his sliding leather fingerloop for a while anwyay.

Pics later - but the template works. I've got it as a pdf file that just needs to printed out to a sheet of a4.

Later - working :-)

I made one of these last night... Tried it out today and it works great. The rivets I used flattened a bit from excess hammering and I used a soft leather. Next time I make another I will use hevier leather.

is there such a thing as excess hammering ?
pdf file attached.

Print out on  asheet of a4 and it's the right size for a general purpose pouch.

updated 6th july 2014. Template is now slightly bigger and totally symmetrical. Printed out on a4 it's perfect for tennis balls and anything smaller.

add cords

The proper cap paul analog must have the sliding leather finger loop to be authentic.
Plus it's hands down the most secure and comfortable design for a finger loop there is. Bar none.

While the pouch might seem too small for something like a tennis ball. The long strips of leather enable it to hold quite large ammo. As well as ammo of an irregular nature. While still keeping the actual pouch itself small enough that it doesn't cause any noticeable drag or air resistance.
The cupped pouch is also suitable for multiple small missiles. Which is fun.

Despite having dozens of slings of different design. My original cap paul has been my edc sling for about 5 years. I've lost count of the release cords I've worn out but it still has the original retention cord and finger loop.
Mind you even that is showing some signs of wear :-)

Until something truly remarkable comes along. In my opinion This is the best sling design on the planet.

Bump :-)
I still think it's the best sling design on the planet :-)

MY simplified sliding findger loop is quicker and easier but just as effective and allows for changing damaged retention cords while re-using the leather finger loop/tab/thingy.

Looks very interesting, I’ll have to try this. Question, I’ve tried finger loops that tighten, and I find them very uncomfortable does it being leather make it more comfortable? Also, I have some small grommets, think they will work well as rivets?

Title: Re: captain pauls sling templates
Post by Curious Aardvark on Jan 8th, 2018 at 7:17am
hese are the rivets I use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Round-Antique-Brass-Rivets-Rapid/dp/B008UHOI08/ref=pd_sbs_201_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6TA0B2K783P14ABBJSHM

And a leather sliding finger loop is easily the most comfortable way of using a sling.

What i do these days is a lot simpler than the stitching and glueing of the original cap paul system.
I cut a simple length of leather. Round ends. Punch a smallish hole both ends cord goes through the shiny side at one end, back though the rouhg side. Tie and melt a single knot. Job done. See the pics of the sling I sent blue raja for pics :-)

The grommets will work, but don't have the strength of the rivets.

I'll have to have a go at making one of these. I've tried before but I think my template was off base and it became way too cupped, and possibly too small.

yeah i need to make one with the holes I actually punch and update the hole placement on the pdf.

I only move them slightly, but it's difficult to explain in what direction, as I use the force to get the perfect placing :-)

It's also important to stretch the pouch after riveting, don't use too stiff a leather either.

lol - yeah you forget just how high a rate of turnover we get.
On the other hand I think it helps keep the forum fresh.
Okay so you answer the exact same questions about every 6 months as people just can't be arsed to search or read though back threads.

But different people bring different perspectives.

Probably just you and me who remember some of these people :-)
