I bet I can beat her in a fight ;-)
As for accurate slinging - probably not - but I'd be mortified if i couldn't beat her for distance - no matter what the rules :-)

cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck....     ;D

when it's more about hitting the target and less about history and culture I'll be there...    :)

Well, it is about hitting the target, isn't it? (I do not think that the Istan competition uses the Balearic rules).

I intended to come, the bus takes one and a half day from Aachen to Malaga. But I am currently in a lot of stress and I am moving to a different flat just at the time of this event. :'(

If I can use a sling with nylon cords and a one and a half windup shooting technique, I'll come... so to MONTE AVENTURA...   legal or not to compete at Istan???????

Monte Aventura,

can you tell something more about the contest? Is slinging very common in andalucia? Unfortunately 30. Sept. is the 40. birthday of my wife. She wouldn't be amused to see me leaving for a slinging contest letting her alone with the guests  :(
When will be the next slinging event around Malaga?

In one of his early posts he wrote that they also provide slings at the event. I do not care about the material, but whether there are limitations on the style would be interesting for me, too.

As an aging creature I have found power and accuracy are diminishing with the years...  as what power and accuracy I have left is so integrated with "my sling" I'm afraid I would have to be assured I can use my own sling in order to be enticed to attend...  I got a free sling from someone and tried to use it...  it was like trying to throw left handed (I'm a righty) compared to using my own.

I'd still like to know if I could participate at Istan with my own sling...???   ...and throwing technique...???    :-?    :-/

In February I had the opportunity to buy a sling in Granada. It was made from esparto gras. The whole shop was filled with things made from esparto and accordingly it was called "Esparteria". But there where also slings made from synthetic stuff.

I have 19 high res (168 mb total) video files from Istan 2005. They were shot by our fellow slinger Zorrro. No idea if I’m authorized to send the files to the net or how to do it. They are listed as Windows audio/video files but the actual extension is not shown.
The participants use various styles and the media quality is great.

Within the following thread is a reference to the original files as type .asf.

Feel free to copy and share all files

There are only four files left on Zorrro's putfile account. :(

And they don't seem to work either. I keep getting a file removed page.

I hope to be there, if nothing stops me. So I'd like you to tell me if Istan is in local feast and if it would be interesting to arrive some hours before the sling contest (17.00).
Thank you and I hope to get to know ourselves. Tell me how can I recognize you.

O.K. Antonio. I'll try to help you to carry so heavy load :) :) :) :). Not the falcon but the beer, although I love birds of prey too.

For those of us who just completed a Balearic competition...  what were the winners scores at Istan?  Do they also shoot at a 500 mm target spot on a 1.2 meter backboard?  Do they use the same ranges (distances) the Balearics do?

We know how we did against each other but are more than a little curious about how we did compared to the Spanish and their island neighbors.
