Title: The page that wouldn't die
Post by ADAXL on Mar 3rd, 2007 at 3:55pm
I just discovered ths page, which is filled with inappropriate content:

http://www.slinging.org/wiki/index.php?title=Talk

I tried to remove the junk, but it keeps coming back when I hit preview.

I removed the content a few hours ago, it doesn't appear to have returned.
Came back a few minutes ago and updated - still apparently OK. :)

YAY! Spam on the wiki,
This is a milestone guys, guess it means it's 'official' now  ::) :P.
You have to find guys like this kind of funny, "you pressed an edit button, wow, you're cool."

Thanks guys for reverting it.

Of course you can't: it has already been deleted. You would have to look in the history: http://www.slinging.org/wiki/index.php?title=Talk&oldid=2136
Some people call editing an open wiki "hacking"... [smiley=lolk.gif]

I just removed another link farm. Maybe we should disable editing for anonymous users for a few weeks until the link spammers lose interest.

Make it so.

how about just removing editing by anonymous users period ?

And  member can type in his or her username and password no matter what computer they are on - so for something like the wiki - I see no need for anonymous editing anyway.

I think Wikipedia is a brilliant idea. It accumulates knowledge which would never have found into books because it is so easy and cheap to add information. But the anonymous editing of the slinging wiki is at the moment a plague. Who can administrate it?

idea of a wiki is not to be absolute resource for all kinds of researches. it can at best give you guidlines where to look next.  ;)

wikipedia in general is quite good fun.
Kinda like ebay - don't take everything at face value all the time :-)

But we're talking about the slinging wiki specifically here. And there really isn't anything that can be added to it or edited on it where there is any necessity for anonymous input. Anyone with relevant knowlege will probably be a forum member anyway - or if not probably join. The only reason for wanting to remain anonymous is
1) If you are posting erroneous info and don't want to be questioned ('cos if we know who you are someone will question you ;-)
2) you're adding inappropriate content.

Has been something changed on the wiki configuration or is it just because of Easter that there was no spam today?

It seems nobody can administrate the wiki.

Ok. I will ignore the wiki in the future.

Title: Lock down the Wiki now!
Post by ADAXL on Apr 21st, 2007 at 4:11am
I removed another round of spam posting on several talk pages. Please lock down the Wiki and block edits by anonymous users!

Chris has disabled anonymous editing in the wiki.  I checked it, and if I click an "Edit" link, I go to a page that tells me I must log in to edit anything.

As Dale mentioned, I have disabled anonymous editing.  Hopefully this will curtail some of the spam.

Zwiebeltuete, I hope you will not ignore the wiki.  We need people like you to help.

Chris
