Title: Anyone going to help with the textual resources?
Post by Chris on Oct 3rd, 2003 at 2:11am
I posted before, but I'll post again.  I'd really appreciate if people were to email me a complete list of references in a uniform style.  You can pull quite a few from a thread archeorob started recently.

I really want to get something up on that page, but I just don't have the time or patience to do the grunge work.

Thanks,
Chris

Schwartz, Max.  Machines, Buildings and Weaponry of Biblical Times. Old Tappan, NJ: Revell, 1990

This is a great, general reference.  I like the scope of the book, but it does not cover anything in great detail.  It does however, mention the sling briefly and alludes to its military importance in a positive way.

Yeah I have that book Jeff, I'll have to take another lookie.  I think we should put sling braiding books on the list.

Sling Braiding of the Andes, by Adele Cahlander

I believe that a man, Jesus Vegas Hernandez, wrote a book on slings a few years back.  I knew him then, but he wrote it in Spanish.  If anyone knows of his whereabouts, ask him.  I'm surprised he isn't on this forum.  Maybe he is?

If you can, please provide the full reference (copyright date, publisher, city, etc.)

You can use the appropriate format here:

Oooh, I would love too see that one in Spanish.  It's one that I haven't heard of yet.   :)  I hope you can get the reference Ben!

I'm going to finally post what few I have left on the other thread that was started earlier.

Rob,

I have his old email address.  I'll write him tomorrow and ask him.  You can read Spanish?  If so you can translate it for us!  Jesus Vega Hernandez and I used to correspond in the late 90's about slings.  He was the master and had contacts with the Federacion Balear De Tiro Con Honda, or something like that.  I can't spell in Spanish.  The Baleric Slinging Foundation.  They have yearly competitions.  It may be worth our while to get in contact with them if we can find their address.  If nobody else knows it I may be able to get it but no promises.  The language barrier would be a problem.  They speak Spanish.  But if you or another member does too, then our problem is solved.  From what I hear these guys are good.  They shoot at carbage can lid size targets from 50 yards or something.  I can't remember precisely so don't quote me.  They also do some sort of thing where they throw long distance into a swiming pool size target.  I have a folder with printed out information about it all.  If anyone has any information or has heard of Jesus Vega Hernandez or knows his whearabouts, then let me know.  I know Jim Burdine used to be on the same list with us.  I think it was a Sling Enthusiasts list on Yahoo or something, but it isn't around anymore from what I know.

I think I was unclear and I forgot to sign my name.  I have Jesus's old email.  I don't know if it still works....  So anyone who knows where he is, he would be a good help to us.

Yeah, Spanish is no problem.  Getting in touch with someone that has competed on the Balearic islands would be really cool!  I hope you can get ahold of him!

Rob,

Awesome!  I'm trying to get ahold of Jesus.  But check out the page on the Baleric Sling Shooting Foundation.  If you would care to for us, you could write them an email from their webpage's address, or call or write them so we could find out what's going on on that side of the World.

thanks for the work guys, i'll put up what we have so far.

As for that spanish organization, here is their link:

Sadly, the site hasn't been updated in years and most of the links are broken.

Here is a babelfish translation of their history page:

I just recived the e-mail from one nice fellow. He is from Poland and his name is Tomek. He probably found me by Chris' forum. I wrote to him but I'm waiting for the replay. Tomek delivered me 5 links to websites about the slinging. They seem fantastic but they are in Spanish and in Russian language. A lots informations about the Balearic slingers.

As you can see from the dates, this is an old thread which got moved.
So maybe the links do not work anymore, but if they do work, they belong here.

Sadly, only the "prasha.htm" page is still on the web.
