Title: maybe what the book should look like
Post by knight on Jan 13th, 2005 at 2:20pm
i think the book should be a hard cover book and inside have a timeline and then at the end of the timeline have like all members of slinging.org and we can use the map with where all the people are above the timeline at the end and maybe we should have all the members that helped with the book written down too

as long as you write a chapter on it you should get your name on it.

when it comes on sale, i will buy it and then mail it to all of the writers asking them to sign it.

It will be a multi-authored work, so if you write your section, it will be yours.  You can see the sections in the posts called "Outline".

Let me know if you are interested,
Chris

I'd be happy to do any of the sections, but which ones still need writing?
Rik

Edit- In the modern times section something about the world record and also in sling related weapon maybe the trebuchet deserves a mention?

LionHeart, I totally agree. This book need a how to section on using and making slings/ammo.

Also about selling it, I think it should be sold, and all the profits go to the upkeep and expences of this website. I mean, no-one here is helping to write this because they want to be a millionare, and if we use it on the site then everyone can benifit.

I wanna be a millionaire, then I can pusue my dream of building a giant sling and using it to sling the Earth into the Sun, mwahahahah! Oh, sorry, you did not hear that!

Seriously, though. There are publishers/sellers that deal with specific subject.  The Osprey series of books deal only with the history of warfae and weapons, from all time periods. That might be a good place to start. They also publish the " Men at Arms" series.
True, it would be a limited interest group, but the idea is to spread the  interest in the subject. Then, hopefully it will be treated more seriously.
The reason some weapons are more interesting than others is their percieved importance in battle. A sword was a noblemen's weapon for centuries. And who wrote the books about swords? Noblemen! ( Sir Richard Burton, for example) Hype.

personally i think that for the possible how to section, the articles of this site should be used.  personally, i can not think of a better set fo guides and instructions than those.
