And a Solemn Resurrection Day to all who observe it.

It is no coincidence that most major 'holidays' are rife with the trappings of paganism to stumble as many as possible.  Most do not even know nor care what their festivities represent ,nor their origins.....all in 'harmless' fun. :(     In reality, though,  the perpetuation of such is an affront to our Creator to my way of thinking.   Most churches today can really care less about the false teachings that stream from their pulpits.......as foretold long ago.   Here is some information to consider should the reader be compelled to investigate it:

The word Easter has pagan origins. So I always call it "Resurrection Sunday". For those who celebrate it, Happy Resurrection Sunday!

Do you guys think it matters that we do call it Easter and celebrate the way we do? I mean, if in our hearts we really are in a state of celebration, worship, and thanks for God's incredible gift, that's really what matters, right?

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, today is known as Pasha (passover in Greek)  the Lord's Passover.  We say to each other for 40 Days Christos Anesti (Christ is Risen) and we reply Alithos Anesti (Truly He is Risen).

Do I think that its important, the name we use and the way we celebrate?  Yes, because with so much ignorance in our time and an attention span that last all of 2 seconds we need to pack in as much meaning into as few words as possible, so that everyword, even a single word needs to make an impression.

O Theos Mazi Sas (God be with You all)

Well WildAtHeart,  you've certainly hit upon the crux of the matter!  Man inherently want's to worship his GOD in his way.....hey, it's easier that way!  But, the GOD of the bible is a "GOD exacting exclusive devotion".   He explicitly states that HE wants us to worship HIM in HIS way!  (That's the hard part for many).    To the GOD of the bible, the false goddess, 'ishtar' and the bunny and egg examples of her fertility rites are debasing to HIS children, whether or not they wish to recognize this fact.

Considering that the very name 'easter' is derived from a false goddess,  the issue is quite important.  But this all hinges upon who one's GOD really is, and how accountable you feel you are to HIM.  Christ said that even one's belly can be a god!  Are we to be ruled by our desires or give to GOD the exclusive devotion HE requires?  But this and subjects like it can be better examined by even a simple 'google' search than here in our slinger's forum.  That is one of the unique qualities of the internet.  So much healing or damaging information is within a finger's reach and discernement is certainly helpful....especially in the critical times in which we live......."for many practice a 'form' of godly devotion.....but prove false to it's power."

I am sure that if God exists - and sorry guys, but I don't think he does (at least, not in any conventionally thought manner) - he would not want humankind to celebrate such a thing in such a way at all.  God would believe that humans should celebrate such a thing in any way which causes them to remember what happened to that young man on the cross, and what happened after.  Easter eggs are hardly the way to do that (unless they were inscribed with the stations of the cross, or something).  Similarly, I think that complaining about various festivals' pagan origins is, to put it bluntly, silly.  After all, most of Judaeo-Christian teaching comes, at some point in the very distant past, from pagan religions.  And now these ideas are fully integrated, so long as people are celebrating, truly, the death and resurrection of Christ, then the little accoutrements are ok.  In Anglo Saxon England, the Church was actually based around the pre-existing ideas of Kinship and meeting houses.  So most of the churches in England are therefore descended from pagan ideas.  It is a little, as I said earlier, silly, too say that any pagan thing is bad when linked with Christianity.  I also believe that religion is very contrived, and having a monotheistic belief system based on a pre-existing multi-thesitic belief system just shows how insane organised religion is.  I also think that those sites Tech directed us too are going a bit over the top - "These things are no joke, anymore than judgement day is no joke", etc.  All very interesting, but....

Calling Easter, Christianity etc.. foolish is nothing new or shocking to me. Don't worry, you can rant and rave, but you're not going to ruffle my feathers. The Apostle Paul said that the gospel was
" foolishness to the Gentles". It was foolish then as it is today. Please direct me to a website or book that declares the pagan origin of the Bible.
