If you want to buy a book of similiar nature, check out "Maurice's Stratigikon" (perhaps my personal favorite Byzantine military treatise written in the 6th century). This treatise, or military handbook, was written for the common officer, and thus is devoid of elite military jargon. Unit formations, pre and post battle strategies, weaponry, etc. You name it, this book has it.

Another good one (nothing to do with slings tho) is "The Gallic Wars" by Julius Caesar...
